These are the Official Munich Oktoberfest Beer Steins and Mugs used at the worlds largest Oktoberfest celebration! Crown Prince of Bavaria Ludwig and Princess Therese, began this beer drinking celebration with their wedding and a great horse race in October of 1810. Legend has it that the fest was enjoyed so much by the townsfolk that the anniversary was celebrated year after year until it became the Oktoberfest celebration we know today.
Every year, a new Oktoberfest logo design is chosen for the official Oktoberfest stein. Known as the Wirtekrug mug, or “Host’s Mug,” these are normally available only at the festival in Munich. However, German Steins is able to procure a limited number of these stoneware mugs each year directly from the manufacturer.
Wirtekrug mugs are produced by Rastal, a Hohr-Grenzhausen firm that produces stoneware and pewter articles in the “Kannenbackerland” tradition of masterful craftsmanship. Some have a decorative, domed pewter lid (stein), some have no lid (mug). All have a copy of the artist’s signature on the base and come with a certificate of authenticity and a gift box.
If you’re looking to fill a gap in your Wirtekrug collection from the past few festivals, don’t put off ordering. Once the official designs are sold out, they’re gone. For aficionados of Oktoberfest logos from earlier eras, we also have compilation mugs available from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
In addition to the official Oktoberfest mugs and steins, we also have a limited supply of official Oktoberfest coffee mugs, which are perfect for the morning after an Oktoberfest celebration.
If you love Oktoberfest, but would prefer a traditional, hand-painted ceramic stein with a depiction of an Oom-pah band, dancing beermaids, or other celebratory theme, we have an excellent selection of classic style Oktoberfest steins available. We also have dimpled glass beer mugs, with or without pewter lids, in both half-liter and one-liter sizes.
As collectors of German beer steins ourselves, we know what matters most: quality and authenticity. While the Brazilians are making some nice replicas of steins, we cater to savvy collectors who want the real thing. Rest assured, German Steins only carries authentic, German-made steins from manufacturers with a longstanding reputation for high-quality work.
Our commitment to quality extends to our shipping. We know how disappointing it can be to find a purchase arrived broken, so every order is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely. If there’s ever a problem, we’ll make good on it.
