Product Description

This beer stein depicts a man in a beer garden enjoying a goblet of wine, conversing with the hostess under the Linden tree.  This motif is a depiction of traditional German song from the late 1800s.  The song tells of a traveler stopping at The Linden Tree Inn for a drink.  He finishes his cup and finds he has no money left.  He then appeals to the hostess, telling of his great thirst and complementing her youth and beauty.  She suggests he trade his satchel for another jug of wine.  Again he finds he has not a drop left and appeals.  She takes his hat, coat and walking stick.  Finally he declares he has no more to trade and must leave.  She offers his heart as a trade and they embrace, "under the blooming linden tree" (the last line of the song).

The front reads: "Lindenwirtin" which translates as: "The hostess at the Inn of the Linden Tree" or "Linden hostess". The text around the base reads "Keinen Tropfen im Becher mehr..." which translates as: "Not a drop left in the beaker..." (the first line of the song).  The sides feature a castle with tower on a rocky peak.

Traditional style beer stein with deep cobalt blue background and hand painted relief decoration.  Pewter relief lid.

The mold for this stein was sculpted by renowned stein artist Franz von Defregger.
