Product Description
This unique German advent calendar is in a puzzle format which invites you to discover the nostalgic motif by illustrator Kurt Brandes, piece by piece. Each day of December a small box can be opened to reveal 40 new pieces of the puzzle. The final 80 pieces of the puzzle are revealed on Christmas Eve.
The German advent calendar puzzle motif shows Santa dashing along with sleigh still bearing gifts as the sun rises on Christmas Day. The procession, including gnomes on skis & an angel, swiftly moves through the fresh snow as the forest animals join the festive caravan. The forest is decorated for Christmas with Lebkuchen or Gingerbread, stars and garlands.
The detailed picture has 24 boxes to open, with each hiding new puzzle pieces.
Tradition of the Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900's and continues today. The tradition is to open one door each day from December 1 thru December 24. Children love to open a door a day as they count down to Christmas.
