Alpine Style German Advent Calendar
A large ski chalet sits nestled on the wooded alpine slopes in this German advent calendar. A horse drawn sleigh carrying a Bavarian couple approaches from the left, while a family of carolers approaches from the right. Children run and play in the snow and a column of smoke rises from a cabin in the background. A thick blanket of snow rests on the rooftops and clings to boughs of pine trees, glistening with a coating of glitter.
Traditional Richard Sellmer Verlag Alpine Advent Calendar
The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with small doors was made in the early 1900’s and the tradition continues to this day. The Richard Sellmer Verlag company was founded in 1945, and gained popularity in America as early as 1950. Still a family run German business, the Richard Sellmer Verlag company continues the German tradition of handcrafted advent calendars.
