This hand crafted German advent calendar folds out to over 23" wide and to create a 3D shape.  In this charming & nostalgic scene originally drawn in the 1960s, children in a snow covered village enjoy winter activities.  A snowman is built, a boy skis down the lane and all enjoy the freshly fallen snow.  

Small fold out panels in the corners add a dimension of depth and detail to the advent calendar.  The detailed picture features 24 doors, each with a small illustration behind it.

The tradition of the advent calendar dates back to 1851 in the Protestant parts of Germany. The first advent calendar with small doors was made in the early 1900’s and the tradition continues to this day. The Richard Sellmer Verlag company was founded in 1945, and gained popularity in America as early as 1950. Still a family run German business, the Richard Sellmer Verlag company continues the German tradition of handcrafted advent calendars.
